We are strong in our faith, knowing that God can heal any disease and deliver us from any danger.  But the increasingly rapid spread of the COVID 19 coronavirus requires us to think beyond our individual health.  In times like these we must be good stewards of other people’s health.  You may never feel sick, you may completely overcome the coronavirus in your own body, but you could still transmit the virus to someone who cannot overcome the disease.  The Bible says that “We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves” (Romans 15: 1, KJV).

In times like these, we must be wise enough and humble enough to follow the best advice for keeping all members of our community safe.  We follow Jesus’ example by being good stewardship of our neighbor’s health.   As the Word of God reminds us “Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, leading to edification.  For even Christ did not please Himself” (Romans 15: 1-2a, NKJV).

Effective immediately, all group meetings, activities, and rehearsals, including Sunday School are suspended until further notice.

Now like the children of Israel who found themselves in the wilderness for a season, we adjust.  We learn.  We discover how to get water from the rocks of distance and digital community.  Like Israel in the wilderness, we the congregation of Bailey Tabernacle CME Church will grow and come out the other side stronger and more united.

We’re used to meeting in a beautiful building.  When this crisis too has passed we will meet in that building again, but the church is not the building.  The church owns a building, pays bills on a building, and is blessed to have a building from which to serve God and the community.  But, the building is not the church.

WE are the church.

Our faith in Jesus Christ and our love for one another are what make us a church family.  Neither pandemics, nor quarantines, nor the gates of Hell itself can prevail against our church.

As we adjust to this season there will be some mistakes and more adjustments, but we will be alright.

Call each other.

Email each other.

And more and more, PRAY for each other.

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose” (Romans 8: 28, NKJV).

I am praying for all of you, and I am excited about how the Lord will use even such a time as this for His glory and our good.

Yours in Christ,

Pastor Anderson T. Graves II
